- 4 cups Flour
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 1/2 tsp Caraway Seeds (but can use less, such as 1/2 tsp for less intense flavor)
- 1 cup Raisins (or use 1/2 cup Raisins and 1/2 cup dried cranberries)
- 1 Egg
- 2 tbs vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 cup Buttermilk
Preparation Time
20 minutes
- Preheat oven to 375 F.
- Mixing bowl 1 - dry ingredients: mix four, sugar, baking soda, salt, baking powder, caraway seeds, and raisins
- Mixing bowl 2 - wet ingredients: mix egg, vegetable oil, buttermilk.
- Working quickly, mix dray ingredients into the wet ingredients. If too wet to handle, add a little more flour. work into 2 bread balls.
- Place on parchment paper on a cookie sheet, or use an oiled cast iron frying pan.
- Cut an X about 1/2 inch deep into the top of each.
- Place in preheated oven for 20 minutes at 375.
- Lower heat to 350 F and continue baking 20 to 25 minutes.
