Adding a Recipe, Ingredients & Instructions

How do I add a recipe?

Simply enter the recipe title, then list your ingredients and instructions/directions in the provided fields.

What's the best way to format my instructions?

For best results, enter each instruction step on its own line. Then click the “Itemize” button, this will convert each line into a separate step, which helps with later bookmarking to your video.

Can I edit the steps after itemizing?

Yes! You can modify the text or delete any step before finalizing your recipe.

Recording or Uploading a Video

Can I upload a video instead of recording?

Yes! You can upload a .mp4 video file directly from your device.

How does the video recording feature work?

Click “Record Video” to use your device’s camera. Most modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) support this feature. You can pause the recording anytime — great for baking breaks or transitions.

What if my browser says video recording isn't supported?

Try using a different browser like Google Chrome or Firefox. Also, make sure your camera is enabled and permissions are granted.

Is my video stored securely?

Yes, all uploaded or recorded videos are securely stored on our servers and only accessible to you unless you choose to share them.

Bookmarking Recipe Steps to Video Timings

How do I link a recipe instruction to a moment in the video?

From the details view of a Recipe, click on the "Add Bookmarks" button. While watching your video, click the “Bookmark Step” button when the moment for a specific instruction happens. This will tag the current video time to that instruction step.

What happens after I bookmark all my steps?

Once every instruction step is paired with a timestamp, your Recipe Memory™ is ready to be shared.

Can someone edit my recipe from the external link?

Can I remove my recipe from public view later?

Tablemates can add their own stories to your recipe.

Recipe Photos

Can I add photos to a recipe?

Yes! You can add one or more photos to any recipe in Recipe Memory™. Photos are a great way to showcase your finished dish, highlight ingredients, or capture special cooking moments.

What size or shape should my photo be?

All photos are automatically cropped to a square format to keep recipe pages clean and consistent.
Tip: Be sure to center the most important part of your photo ...like the dish or the plated ingredients... so nothing gets cut off.

Can I add a caption to my photo?

Yes! When uploading a photo, you have the option to add a caption or description.
Use captions to share:
  • A personal note about the dish
  • The name of the person who cooked it
  • A fun memory behind the photo

Can I choose a primary photo?

Absolutely. You can set one photo per recipe as the primary photo. This is the image that will appear:
  • As the main thumbnail for your recipe
  • On recipe preview cards in your collection or when sharing
If no primary photo is set, the first photo uploaded will be used by default.

Where do my photos go?

All photos are stored on our web server and associated to the recipe they’re added to. You can view or edit them anytime from the recipe page.

Do photos count toward my storage?

Yes, photos do count toward your overall Video & Photo file storage usage. You can always check your current usage and available tokens under your account settings.

Can I update or remove a photo later?

Yes! You can:
  • Edit a photo's caption
  • Change which photo is set as Primary
  • Delete any photo you've uploaded (coming soon)

Recipe: Serving Size Calculator

How do I use the Serving Size Calculator?

Simply open a recipe in Recipe Memory™, enter the number of people you're serving, and the calculator will instantly update all ingredient quantities.

Do I need a subscription to use the calculator?

Yes, the Serving Size Calculator is available exclusively to our Head Chef subscription plan members.

Can I scale recipes up and down?

Absolutely! You can adjust recipes to serve more or fewer people, depending on your needs.

Does the calculator change cooking times too?

No. The Serving Size Calculator only adjusts ingredient quantities. Cooking times may vary depending on batch size, so we recommend checking doneness as you cook.

What measurement units does it support?

It works with common recipe units including teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, ounces, pounds, and grams.

Will scaling affect the flavor of my recipe?

The calculator proportionally adjusts ingredients to maintain flavor balance, so your recipes stay true to the original.

Does it work with shared or family recipes?

Yes, any recipe saved in Recipe Memory™ with a serving size count specified in the recipe details can use the Serving Size Calculator, whether it’s one you entered, imported, or shared with friends and family through a Table.

What happens if I cancel my Head Chef subscription?

You'll still keep all your recipes, but the Serving Size Calculator will only be accessible with an active Head Chef subscription plan.
