- 12 oz (1 bag) fresh cranberries (rinsed and picked over)
- 1 medium orange (zest and juice)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional, for warmth)
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger or freshly grated ginger (optional, for zing)
- Pinch of kosher salt
Preparation Time
10 minutes
- Prep orange: Zest the orange, then cut it in half and juice it. You should have about 1/2 cup juice.
- Cook cranberries: In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, orange juice, sugar, honey, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Simmer: Cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens.
- Flavor boost: Stir in orange zest, cinnamon, and ginger (if using). Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity as desired.
- Cool & serve: Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. The relish will thicken further as it cools.
- Storage: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
